Civic Activity #1

Date of Activity:

Date of Reflection:

Civic Action: Start or join a book club

Ava and started a book club together, which was pretty fun to do. We started it for my English class, I needed to read a gothic book, with Jane Eyre. I’d recommend it, but maybe with more planning and making it more of a set in place thing so everyone is one the same page. I find I really like reading, but finding time for it is hard. Maybe all the planning stuff will figure itself out if we get more members or something!

Civic Activity #2

Date of Reflection:

Civic Action: Research your dream job

Well, this one was sad. I really want to be a wildland firefighter, it’s a cause that actually matters to me, so I looked into the physical requirements. Turns out that in the United States you need to have 20/100 uncorrected vision in both eyes. I don’t have that in my left eye, but my right eye is 20/15 so I’m hoping they’ll still be okay with me. I emailed the student recruiter for our region about how strict it is and haven’t gotten a response yet, so maybe there’s still hope.

Civic Activity #3

Date of Activity:

Date of Reflection:

Civic Action: Participate in a Fun Run/Walk/Ride for a cause

I didn’t run but I helped out with hosting the cross country fun run this year! I handed out drinks to people, which helped collect money for the team. It was fun to do that though, even if it was cold and rainy. If I was apart of the team next year I would still do it, I learned it’s totally worth doing all the side stuff with the team because pretty much everyone on the team is a lot of fun to do stuff with.

Civic Activity #4

Date of Activity:

Date of Reflection:

Civic Action: Research a current event and have a conversation with Morris and Fortier

Hey! I did this a lot, without though, Fortier, I guess. This was worth doing, I always like to hear how other people think or approach issues, because, well, you learn a lot that way. I’ll totally do this some more next semester, and when I move on to college I’ll have to find someone all to bother about all the issues going on in the world. Also, I would recommend it, just because I think everyone should always be aware of what’s going on around them.

Civic Activity #5

Date of Activity:

Date of Reflection:

Civic Action: Sit next to someone you don’t know

At the start of the year I had no clue Jasper (hope I spelled that right) even existed! Turns out he’s good at wrestling and is pretty cool. He’s pretty quite though, which sometimes makes me wonder if we’re like excluding him from the conversation. I don’t know if I’d really be able to do this again, just because we have such a small class and I already know the people in it, but if there where someone else I’d like to get to know them!

Civic Activity #6

Date of Activity: Summer - present.

Date of Reflection:

Civic Action: Volunteer somewhere

I volunteered to identify animals that where captured on trail cams in Gifford Pinchot National Forest. This has to be one of my favorite things to do now! I learned so much about wildlife, their features that help to identify them, and what they do. Did you know that one reason bears rub their backs against trees is to get sap on their backs which works as a natural tick repellent? Like that’s so crazy to me! Also, it’s pretty scary to see the animals, like Cougars, who happen to live so close to where I spend most of my time outdoors.
